you read my mind exactly. Except I think that Richard may not be able to make the necessery in game adjustments the way Quinn did. But the people defending wilson with various excuses have to wake up, he has played distracted all year.

Sadly, even if Kam does return before the start of regular games, he's probably on his last contract as a Seahawk. I don't see John Schneider bringing him back again. It's a tough situation, one no one wanted or thought would go as far as it has. Kam compared himself to Marshawn Lynch, and he was wrong in thinking that he's just as unique a talent as Lynch. A RB like Lynch comes along once every 10 - 15 years, and is the perfect fit for the Seahawks scheme. Kam as a physical defender, is one of probably 30 in the NFL. Look at Polomalu, Suggs, Willis, the Rams LB's. All fast, physical and productive (when they played).

I agree alot with what you are saying however LoMo, IMO is better than Trumbo at this very moment. Trumbo has been nothing short of worthless since arriving and it stings that much more seeing Wellington tear it up with the DBacks

There's an important difference: Wilson won a championship for Seattle.

The most Rodriguez ever did was win a division series and play his ass off in a losing ALCS. People forget how good he was against the Yankees in 2000.

I'll be sad if Wilson leaves or if he cripples the Seahawks' salary cap situation with a monster contract. But, his choices cannot ever erase a Super Bowl win.

Why the need to explain the length of the season and other more known particulars to start your article? Also, how can you say not to worry and the wins will come in bunches? There are all sorts of things wrong and right with the M's, and telling us not to worry is kind of pointless. We've been worrying and losing for the better part of 15 consecutive seasons. The bottom line in the matter is GM Jack. He is the ONLY reason this team will fail. There is a cancer or losing mentality created by GM Jack that will not go away until he does. Until someone stands up and points this out, Seattle will continue to lose, regardless of good player high dollar contracts. The only thing we have to show since his arrive is failure and lost revenue. Care to prove me wrong? I do enjoy your articles for the most part. Thanks! (also, you say 'don't have an episode just yet' Do you like telling people what not to do and what to do based on nothing but a perpetually losing team? You should allow people their own emotions based on WHAT IS IN FRONT OF THEM :)

Not sure what the deal is with Young, and why they decided not too sign him. Are we too assume that this is more of a numbers game. Or was he less then those vying for a spot in the rotation. IMO. he his a proven pitcher and not a unproven rookie I realize that the young guys have some upside but they are still a gamble to fulfill an entire year. Hard for me too wrap my head around that. There will come a time when this will prove itself out, but then what? they will need to make a trade, sure I can see it.

You know I think your 50% right Sucre did have some passed balls however in all fairness some of those pitches thrown could of been called wild pitches, you know the pitchers sometimes has to shoulder some of the responsibilities don't you think?

You're quite right about Buck, but IMO Sucre doesn't have the athletic ability needed for a pitching staff that puts a lot of balls in the dirt - we have two such pitchers right now, and I don't know about Happ. There were times last year when I felt like he passed more such pitches than blocked them. If the Ms are staying with him as #2 this year, I will be watching him closely to see if he shows any improvement. I am a strong believer in the need for the catcher to be top notch on defense and consider good hitting from one as a bonus. But if he can't cut it on D, I believe he should be sent down to learn the job, or be cut loose.

Jones is not an every day player, other then him you don't have a centerfielder however you put a spin on it.

You must be confused with Sucre, and John Buck actually I thought Sucre was much better backstop then Buck, yes his bat is something less then desirable, and as far as his calling a game he may need to just get more familiar with the pitching staff, remember he just came up this year Zunino has had his challenges as well give Sucre a little more time, but yes if you look at our pass backup catchers, and how we just seem to just go from one to another it's not a good thing.

Everyone with any knowledge of the game should be worried right now about the #2 catcher situation. Who knows, Sucre may be improved this year and surprise us all - but I can't imagine that based on the abilities I saw last year. And we darn well better have somebody at least competent there for the season or it will hurt us, badly!
Yeah, letting Jaso go was an obvious mistake at the time, but water over the bridge now. Picking up Doumit right now is the only practical option unless JZ can work a trade that doesn't hurt the long term talent pool. Fortunately, there's still a few months to fixit. :)

Sorry, I don't see Sucre as even a good backstop. He allows too many balls in the dirt to get by and any time I see pitchers consistently shaking off a catcher's signal, that's not a good sign of his management skills to me. If he could handle a bat well, that would maybe be some compensation, but he's pretty much an automatic K at the plate.
I agree on Hicks, he needs more refinement, but he may become a ML starter. I should think by the end of this year we would have a pretty good idea of what to expect from him.

If Jackson got hurt, you'd have to move Jones to CF and Bloomquist probably becomes your #5 in LF, or, Smith/Ruggiano cease platooning. Don't forget, Logan Morrison and Nelson Cruz can play the OF if needed as well.

However, I should say that my first posting was under the assumption that Endy was being considered as part of the 25-man roster, not AAA or the 40-man. If you can sign him to a minor league deal and keep him in AAA, that's great, but I just can't seem to justify a spot for him on the 25-man with a major league contract.

The M's lack of outfield depth in the minor leagues is scary though. Not much in the pipeline to get excited about.

I'm not sure Sucre will ever be an everyday catcher. I think he's a good backstop but that's about it. Next in the depth charts is probably Hicks, but I think he's still pretty raw and wouldn't offer any significant advantage over Z or Sucre.

Sometimes I really wonder what goes on in that bald head of Jack's.

I'm just glad I'm not the only one concerned about the #2 catcher situation. It's really a lot of at-bats to simply give away every season on a backup.

I really wish the M's still had John Jaso - not the best defensive catcher, but he could call a great game, made good contact, and was a left handed batter with a high career OBP. But right now, Doumit might be the more probable option as it's simply a matter of throwing him a contract instead of trading within the division.

Brian - Well written article, but I believe you have overlooked one glaring weakness that has not been addressed yet. That is the backup catcher. Watching Sucre's work behind the plate last year was nothing short of painful. He is still learning how to call a game, how to handle pitchers and it doesn't appear to me he has the faintest idea, or ability, about pitches in the dirt. IMHO, he may be a good one some day, but not this year. Jack Z should be actively looking for a catcher that can at least do a yeoman job spelling Zunino and send Sucre back to Tacoma to learn his craft, and maybe learn how to hit big league pitching while he's there.

Endy hit .069 against LHP last year and didn't offer any sort of power or OBP in return. On another team, he'd make a fabulous #5 outfielder or defensive replacement, but the M's just don't have the roster space for a platoon player with no power or SB potential.
